Overview: Works were carried out to improve maintenance facilities to keep up with demand. This included converting and extending existing facilities to provide servicing, maintenance and stabling for a new fleet of trains. New equipment, plant rooms and walkways were also installed. Elements such as a new carriagewash were self-delivered and all works were completed in a live environment safely and on time.

Overview: This project involved stabilising and strengthening the embankment supporting the M11 motorway. Works included installation of a retaining wall, placement and compaction of fill material, placement of matting to help stop soil-erosion, and re-seeding. Our early involvement helped overcome conflicting buried High Voltage cables and an existing culvert and underpass.

Overview: The project was part of a series of junction upgrades collectively aimed at easing congestion at pinch points along the A127 and accommodating projected traffic levels. As part of their social value programme, the team worked with a local Construction Skills Hub to pilot a six-week employability and industry skills training module aimed at supporting and developing construction certificate students.

Overview: This project saw us upgrade 32 miles of motorway between junction 3 at Hayes and junction 12 at Theale to reduce congestion and smooth traffic flow. Seven of the 11 new bridges were built alongside existing structures before they were demolished to keep people moving and a staggering £170M+ of social value was created as part of the works.

Construction Value: £26M

Overview: We built a new ticket hall at the heart of the station, giving direct access to the platforms to improve flow and supporting a wider regeneration plan for the area. The station’s underpasses were installed using an innovative method of jacking two 135T boxes beneath the track, which significantly reduced the closure period needed.

Overview: Whitechapel was one of ten newly built stations for the Elizabeth line. The ambitious design weaved between existing transport services and used an elevated concourse as a bridge over the London Underground and Overground networks. This complex project began with construction of two 30-metre-deep shafts, followed by an interim ticket hall to enable demolition of the existing one.

Overview: In partnership with BAM Nuttall we carried out works at Amersham, Harrow on the Hill and Osterley Stations to give step free access as part of a programme to make Tube travel more accessible for everyone. At each station we also upgraded mechanical, communications and electrical systems to support the lift installations.

Overview: Working in partnership with BAM Nuttall, we delivered a complex station upgrade to relieve congestion, improve access, and extend the station’s life by approximately 75 years. Over the course of the project, the team were recognised with numerous awards including five RoSPA Gold Awards and the ICE London Complex Civil Engineering Award.

Overview: This project saw us upgrade a 22km stretch of the M6 between junction 2 at Coventry and junction 4 near Coleshill to increase capacity and relieve congestion as part of a joint venture with VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Balfour Beatty. The improvements opened on time and throughout the duration the team was recognised with 12 industry awards.

Overview: We constructed a new junction on the M20 to provide additional capacity and reduce congestion both for local traffic and intercontinental traffic travelling to and from Dover. These benefits were delivered into service ahead of schedule and the team’s positive impact on the local community throughout was recognised with a CCS Certificate of Excellence.

Overview:This flagship project saw us increase capacity from a 2-line to a 4-line track railway between Bristol Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood Station to relieve a bottleneck that developed due to high passenger and freight flows. It was successfully delivered in a congested and constrained rail corridor, surrounded by a multitude of stakeholders.

Overview: VINCI Environment UK is a joint venture of VINCI Environment and Taylor Woodrow. We designed and built a state-of-the-art integrated waste management facility in North Yorkshire. The facility can process up to 320,000T of waste per year using mechanical-biological sorting. Most waste is treated in two Energy from Waste (EfW) streams, generating enough electricity to power up to 40,000 homes.

Overview: VINCI Environment UK is a joint venture of VINCI Environment and Taylor Woodrow. The Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre project saw us build a combined heat and power facility capable of generating 16.6 megawatts of electricity and diverting 90% of the county’s residual waste away from landfill. The facility generates enough electricity to power 21,000 homes.

Construction Value: £142M

Overview:This four-year project saw us redevelop railway land at Old Oak Common to provide maintenance, stabling and office accommodation for the new fleet of trains for the Elizabeth line. The team developed an integrated sustainable hybrid renewable energy system as part of the design and build contract. This award-winning system is expected to significantly reduce CO2 production and operational costs.

Overview: In partnership with BAM Nuttall, we successfully delivered this highly complex project in the heart of London’s West End. Features included an enlarged ticket hall with three new entrances to improve capacity and passenger flow and providing step-free access to all platforms. Project accolades included ‘Major Civil Engineering Project of the Year’ at the British Construction Industry Awards.

Overview: The Crossrail West Stations project was a design and build contract for 13 sites stretching along the existing network from Acton Main Line to Maidenhead Station. Each station needed modifications to accommodate the 200m-long Elizabeth line trains. Works included extending platforms, modifying station canopies, installing footbridges and upgrading mechanical and electrical equipment and project achievements including a CEEQUAL Excellent rating.

Overview: Working in joint venture with VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Balfour Beatty, we upgraded the M5 between Bromsgrove and Worcester to increase capacity and relieve congestion for client National Highways. The upgrade was achieved ahead of programme, with the team’s collaborative approach at the heart of its success.

Construction Value: £87M

Overview: This project provided client London Underground with the infrastructure to fully operate and maintain the new ‘S7 stock’ tube trains. Our works included the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of modified and upgraded maintenance and stabling facilities in the existing depots at opposite ends of the District line. Both depots remained fully operational throughout the project duration.

Overview: We re-engineered a piece of classic railway heritage to create a transport hub fit for the 21st century. Minimising disruption at this busy interchange was challenging, and measures included 13 fully functioning interim station layouts to keep the Underground station operational throughout. We worked with heritage specialists to preserve the Victorian façade whilst updating the building to modern safety standards.

Construction Value: £59M

Overview: As part of the decommissioning programme, we were contracted to build a steel frame over the existing reactor buildings, boiler house and circulator hall which were then fitted with approximately 34,000m2 of aluminium cladding to encapsulate the radioactive buildings. The complicated task to fit a weather-proof skin also required demolition of existing building envelopes, removing brickwork, glazing and existing cladding.

Overview: We constructed a reinforced concrete portal structure for the Elizabeth line and installed an emergency Intervention & Escape structure and Head House building. Works included realigning the Docklands Light Railway to provide space for the portal. The Head House building was the first element of the Crossrail programme to be handed over which was a great achievement for the team.

Construction Value: £65M

Overview: This was technically challenging and unusual for a major new transport scheme as it was nearly all about the refurbishment of Victorian infrastructure dating back over 130 years, and the temporary works that enabled its successful delivery. Principal elements were refurbishment and modification to the existing tunnel and approach ramps, including converting the twin binocular tunnels into one large-bore tunnel.

Overview: This 5.5km scheme was constructed in partnership with HOCHTIEF and improved access between the two towns, opening up north Bexhill for development whilst reducing congestion and pollution. It passed through both urban areas and rural areas of diverse ecology. The project required complex engineering and innovation to construct the road though flood plains and poor ground conditions.
