Powering Britain’s Future: Delivering the Great Grid Upgrade
The Great Grid Partnership is a transformative programme led by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) to deliver the Great Grid Upgrade—the most significant overhaul of the UK’s electricity transmission network in generations. Originally known as the New Infrastructure Onshore Delivery Programme (NIODP) and expanded following Ofgem’s 2022 decision to accelerate onshore transmission investment, the programme is essential to achieving the UK’s net zero targets. It will enable the grid to carry more clean energy from where it’s generated to where it’s needed, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and ensuring long-term energy resilience.
As part of this national effort, Taylor Woodrow, in joint venture with Omexom under the name Omexom Taylor Woodrow (OTW), has been appointed as one of seven Enterprise Delivery Partners. OTW will play a key role in delivering nine major onshore transmission upgrades across England and Wales, including overhead lines and substations. The Great Grid Partnership forms part of a £9bn supply chain framework which will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.
