Isle of Grain

Challenge

TAYWOOD Design services were requested to provide professional consulting services for the design of civils elements associated with the new LNG storage tank supplied to National Grid, located on the Isle of Grain, Rochester, Kent. The project was developed during ongoing site works and changes in the landscape.

Solution

The team provided detailed design of the internal road network, underground services, civil foundations and spill channel. To navigate the changes related to ongoing site works and material movements and the impact on the design modelling and detailing, the Design team worked closely with the site team to acquire survey data at key stages to inform the design development and final proposed levels to improve quantities for procurement and estimating and reduce rework during construction.

Benefits

Our design delivery ensured that civil infrastructure provided met the latest standards and specifications, in particular providing drainage design solutions that account for climate change and exceedance, which were not accounted for in the historic installation of the first tank.

M3 Bagshot Pedestrian Footbridge Replacement

Challenge

The Design and Construction of a new pedestrian bridge connecting Whitmoor Road in Bagshot to Lightwater Country Park has been triggered by the results of a defect identified during structural assessment. As the bridge is a well-used route for school children, and the demolition could add up to 20 minutes additional walking time, the optimisation of the design delivery and construction programme is imperative to restoring the community’s connection.

Solution

Design Services were engaged to provide design management services to ensure that the project was prepared and developed for construction on an optimised programme while passing through all relevant National Highways stage gates and approvals.

PCC Electric Vehicle Charging Points

Challenge

TAYWOOD Design services received a request from their partners, Ringway, to provide professional services related to investigating and designing accessible Electric Vehicle Charging (EVC) points across Plymouth County Council (PCC). The project focused on assessing potential sites on public highways and car parks and provide suitable design solutions.

Solution

The Design team conducted a thorough feasibility study of potential sites. This study included reviewing existing utilities and parking layouts. Working closely with the Client, the team developed detailed design solutions to meet the specific requirements for the number of Electric Charging bays. Additionally, they ensured that the design adhered to the new PAS 1899:2022 requirements.

By maintaining close communication with PCC, TAYWOOD Design services gained a comprehensive understanding of the Client’s needs. Adjustments were made to existing layouts to ensure they comply with regulations to improve their operational efficiency. Eurovia Polybitumen Plant

Challenge

TAYWOOD Design services were requested to review design proposals for a new priority junction providing additional access to the Eurovia Polybitumen plant, enabling improvements to the plant to be carried out in the near future. The review identified several issues with the proposal, and further amendments were required to facilitate a change to the internal layout and to the drainage design provided.

Solution

The team provided a detailed design for the junction, incorporating a new drainage layout, improved kerb lines to aid HGV and tanker manoeuvres and improved alignment for the new internal road layout.

By working closely with the Client, we were able to respond to all change requests and queries quickly, avoiding delays to completion.
