Victoria Station Upgrade

Victoria Station Upgrade

Victoria Underground station handles more passengers than Heathrow Airport each year. We worked in partnership with BAM Nuttall in a 50:50 joint venture to deliver an upgrade to relieve congestion, improve access, and extend the station’s life by approximately 75 years.

The project was located at the centre of one of London’s key transport hubs; weaved around a dense population of residents and stakeholders and so intense stakeholder management, along with innovative methods to maintain “business as usual” for passengers were integral to the Upgrade’s success. Key features of the project were:

  • New North ticket hall (30,000m³ top-down construction)
  • 50% enlargement of existing South ticket hall (13,000m³ top-down construction)
  • 300m of connecting tunnels between ticket halls
  • Station modernisation, including 9 new escalators and 7 new lifts to provide step-free access

Over the course of the project, the team were recognised with numerous awards including five RoSPA Gold Awards, seven Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards, and various technical awards including the ICE London Complex Civil Engineering Award and a Harding Prize. The project is now complete, transforming the station and improving journeys for millions of customers each year.
