Crossrail - C340 Victoria Dock Portal

Crossrail C340 - Victoria Dock Portal

Victoria Dock Portal’s construction phase and testing & commissioning phases are now complete, with the team focussed on handing over the final documentation to Crossrail Ltd to complete the project.

The project involved construction of a reinforced concrete portal structure for the Elizabeth line, along with the installation of an emergency Intervention & Escape structure and Head House building. Milestones included:

  • Realignment of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to provide space for the new portal
  • Construction of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) reception chamber to remove Crossrail’s TBMs, Jessica and Ellie, on completion of the adjoining tunnels
  • Installation, MEP fit out and Testing & Commissioning of a Head House building and surface level maintenance compound

The Head House building has now been fully commissioned. This was the first element of the Crossrail programme to be handed over in August 2019, which is testament to the team’s hard work.
The project has also achieved an outstanding period of over 7 years of significant, complex and demanding works without a Lost Time Incident.
