Crossrail - C340 Victoria Dock Portal

Crossrail C340 - Victoria Dock Portal

The Victoria Dock Portal project involved construction of a reinforced concrete portal structure for the Elizabeth line, along with the installation of an emergency Intervention & Escape structure and Head House building.

Milestones included:

  • Realignment of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to provide space for the new portal
  • Construction of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) reception chamber to remove Crossrail’s TBMs, Jessica and Ellie, on completion of the adjoining tunnels
  • Installation, MEP fit out and Testing & Commissioning of a Head House building and surface level maintenance compound

The Head House building was the first element of the Crossrail programme to be handed over in August 2019, which was a testament to the team’s hard work.
The project achieved an outstanding period of over 7 years of significant, complex and demanding works without a Lost Time Incident.

The project was completed in March 2020
