Crossrail - C340 Victoria Dock Portal

Crossrail - C340 Victoria Dock Portal

Victoria Dock Portal’s construction phase is now complete, and the mechanical and electrical works are entering the Testing and Commissioning phases.

The project involved construction of a reinforced concrete portal structure for the Elizabeth line, along with the installation of an emergency Intervention & Escape structure and Head House building. Milestones included:

  • Realignment of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to provide space for the new portal
  • Construction of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) reception chamber to remove Crossrail’s TBMs, Jessica and Ellie, on completion of the adjoining tunnels
  • Installation of surface level maintenance compounds and temporary Care & Custody offices

It is from these Care & Custody offices that Taylor Woodrow are responsible for maintaining the site and supervising Crossrail’s system wide contractors carrying out works up until the site is commissioned on permanent power and brought into use.

It is a credit to the various personnel and sub-contractors that have worked on the project that it has achieved a period of over 3 years of significant, complex and demanding works without a Lost Time Incident.
