M4's Big Night In raises £100k for charity

Balfour Beatty VINCI has raised £100,000 for charity on the M4 J3-12 Smart Motorway project with their BIG NIGHT IN virtual event.

More than 500 people signed up to watch the event that featured guest speaker and Guinness world record holder Ed Stafford, best known for walking the Amazon river and TV shows on the Discovery channel. Other speakers included Julian Gatward, Taylor Woodrow Managing Director; Peter Anusas, Project Director; Abbey Reid, Communications Manager; Verdun Davies, Works Manager and a range of project colleagues giving personal accounts about the NHS.

The team reached their impressive £100,000 target with more than £95,000 coming from corporate sponsorships from the project and the generosity of the supply chain. Over 30 suppliers gave sponsorship donations ranging from £1000 to £15,000. The remaining £5000 came from personal donations of people working on and associated to the project.

The £100,000 is being split between three charities: the NHS Charities together COVID appeal, Slough Foodbank, and Daisy’s Dream (a local charity supporting children through bereavement).

The project was inspired to carry out the fundraising after learning that one of its Gangers intended to donate a weeks’ worth of wages to the NHS to help with the crisis. He was awarded a weekend holiday voucher on the night for being an inspiration to all.

The emotional and inspiring evening was a big hit with attendees who tuned in from all over the country including a few viewers in Australia!

“Thank you for an excellent evening’s entertainment and many congratulations for raising an amazing sum of money for those greatly in need of such support right now.”

“It was a brave event to put on, and it was great to see some very poignant and personal NHS stories, together with a celebration of your incredible infrastructure project.”

The timeline from conception to the event and reaching the fundraising target was just 6 weeks. Congratulations to all those involved for such an outstanding achievement.
