First Bridge Successfully Demolished on M4 Smart Motorway Project

Our M4 team recently completed the first of 11 bridge demolitions needed to facilitate the smart motorway that they are creating between junctions 3 and 12.

The Balfour Beatty VINCI joint venture successfully demolished Recreation Ground overbridge and re-opened the motorway to traffic over 24 hours ahead of schedule.

Over the course of the works over 2,000 tonnes of rubble was broken up and cleared away. This will all be recycled and used in other parts of the smart motorway scheme including the new bridge that will be constructed here.

The success of the demolition is testament to how everyone involved worked together throughout the planning and across the weekend closure.
