Built in 1888, the Stapleton Viaduct in the Easton district of Bristol needs to be replaced as part of the project. It will allow the number of railway lines to be doubled to four, carrying goods and passengers between Bristol Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood.

Work was carried out non-stop to enable the Stapleton Road beneath to reopen in the evening on Sunday 30 July ahead of programme.

Dave Murray, Structures Project Manager said Our works went to plan and our teams displayed excellent drive and enthusiasm despite the hours and, at some times, pouring rain! Overall there was additional pressure on staffing the weekend as, along with our other possession works on the line, we also successfully brought in and assembled Ashley Hill footbridge ahead of its installation over the line next weekend. Well done to everyone involved.
