Victoria Station Upgrade takes part in 'Insight into Management' programme

Four students from schools in Barking and Dagenham recently joined the Victoria Station Upgrade team on site for 5 days as part of the ‘Insight into Management’ programme.

The programme is an alternative to work experience for post 16 ‘A’ level/BTEC students. Small groups of students are placed within a variety of companies and organisations for a short space of time, where they are required to solve a managerial problem which has been identified by the host company.

The task that VSU set them was ‘to identify how the current development in Information Technology could benefit on site construction and improve productivity’.

The students were taken around site and had meetings with various members of the team to discuss what was already in place and how they could improve it. At the end of their time there, the students presented their findings alongside ten other groups to their employers, teachers and Cllr Evelyn Carpenter, the local Councillor for Educational Attainment and School Improvement.

The presentation and event went well, with lots of good ideas from all of the students.
