The project provided capacity enhancement, increasing the passenger carrying capacity of the station to 37,500 passengers per hour. This necessitated extending the existing commuter concourse in weekend possessions and constructing a new auxiliary concourse.
Further works included the refurbishment of platforms under possessions and modernisation to complete obligations under the PPP contract for station modernisation.
"The level of service and co-operation you get from Taylor Woodrow is excellent; you just don't get that from other contractors. I'm glad you're on board" - LUL Station Liaison Manager
Project challenges included balancing the requirement to maintain an operational station with the demands of achieving a tight programme fixed by the scheduled opening of Wembley Stadium. A strategy of engineering hour works, platform closures and weekend possessions was developed with all stakeholders to provide an optimised solution.
We employed fast track procurement processes to get contractors on board early, to interrogate the design and provide added value whilst maintaining the programme. Early procurement of enabling works contractors including critical service diversions, where records of existing services are non-existent, was essential. The management and co-ordination of this element was a significant undertaking.
