180th project for satisfied customer

Jul 8 2008

Taylor Woodrow and Tesco

When Taylor Woodrow won a contract to build a new Tesco store in Hull in 1985 it was the start of a partnership that has so far spanned 25 years and run to £900m in value.

The current flagship store, Cheetham Hill in Manchester, is Taylor Woodrow's 180th Tesco contract and opens later this year. An environmental concept, it draws on innovative design and use of materials to deliver an operational CO2 emission saving of 50%.

The ability to deliver innovation helped Taylor Woodrow secure a place as one of five strategic construction partners with Tesco in 2001. Taylor Woodrow was selected to join the partnership on a commitment to reduce costs, reduce programme time, innovate, meet stretching performance improvement targets and align with Tesco's long term business objectives.

Taylor Woodrow's involvement with Tesco extends beyond the partnership, having recently completed the 1m sqft central distribution centre in Livingston, S cotland – the biggest building being constructed in Europe at the time.

We are uniquely placed to support our customers in operating in a fast changing market;  strength based on experience, combined with a drive to deliver innovation into the sector as a whole.  With a record UK profit performance in 2007, and a forward order book in excess of £1bn, this stands as testament to our experience, ability and customer focused ethos.
