Taylor Woodrow are currently working to increase the capacity of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) trains to be able to operate with an additional carriage to accommodate increasing traffic and provide greater passenger comfort, and to provide an efficient key transport link to the 2012 Olympic Games.

The works for DLR 3-Car include:

  • modification of stations to extend platforms to accept 3 car trains, provision of new or extended platform canopies, installation of new lifts and stairways;
  • construction of a new station to the east of South Quay Station and demolition of the existing station;
  • modifications and strengthening to approximately 70 bridges and viaducts;
  • construction of new viaducts to provide grade separation of the junction known as Delta Junction adjacent to West India Quay Station with the intention of improving through journey times from Lewisham to Stratford, Bank to Lewisham, Tower Gateway to Beckton and King George V to Bank;
  • construction of new viaducts to provide grade separation of Canning Town Junction near Canning Town Station to connect in the new extension to Stratford International and to improve journey times from Beckton/King George V to Bank/Tower Gateway;
  • modifications, re-alignment and re-grading of permanent-way railway tracks; and
    modifications to traction electrical systems.

The Project will include a number of key interfaces including:
• Local Authorities and the Franchisee;
• City Greenwich Lewisham Rail Link;
• Network Rail (including the relevant train operating companies and freight operating companies;
• Her Majesty's Railway Inspectorate;
• Canary Wharf Limited;
• British Waterways;
• Port of London Authority;
• Environment Agency;
• English Partnerships;
• London Underground;
• Crossrail;
• utilities and other statutory undertakers;
• Société Générale; and
• Serco (DLR operations franchisee)

The massive redevelopment at King's Cross station has reached a key milestone as Network Rail announced its preferred bidder for the western concourse is Taylor Woodrow.
